UCU’s Workload Campaign: UCU has, with the support of the National Union of Students (NUS), launched the ‘Workload is an Education Issue’ campaign.
This has direct relevance for us at Bradford where, this Thursday 14th Feb, the Corporation will meet to decide on whether the college pushes ahead with a new contract for lecturers.
A new contract with 26 hours Scheduled Student Contact (teaching) per week, and increased annual contact time of at least 828 hours and the loss of 2 weeks holiday, will have a huge impact on workload – not just teaching, but all the paperwork we do too.
The result: a negative impact on students, falling quality, falling achievement rates – and, of course, increased stress levels for lecturers.
