Support this rally in Sheffield 14th July
Simon Renton, UCU President Elect, will be coming to Sheffield on Saturday 14th July to speak on behalf of UCU at the public rally called by NUT and NASUWT. The rally is supported by Sheffield, Barnsley and Rotherham Trades Councils, Sheffield Metropolitan Branch of UNISON, Sheffield GMB, South Yorkshire and District Amalgamated Communication Workers’ Union, Yorkshire and Humberside UCU, South Yorkshire National Union of Journalists, Sheffield PCS DWP Head Office Branch, and Sheffield Anti-Cuts Alliance.
The rally is on the theme of ‘Defend Education, Defend Public Services, Defend Pensions, Pay and Jobs’.
The demonstration will assemble at 11.30 in Devonshire Green and leave at 12.00 noon for a march to Barkers Pool (front of City Hall) for the rally. There will be local speakers in Devonshire Green and national speakers, including Christine Blower, General Secretary of NUT, and Simon Renton, UCU, at the rally outside the City Hall.
The NUT and NASUWT are organising two regional demonstrations on 14th July. Sheffield has been chosen because the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, has his constituency in Sheffield. The other demonstration will be in Oxfordshire, where the Prime Minister, David Cameron, has his constituency.
